Albanian Government Grants Bonuses to Social Care Workers

The Albanian government has decided to reward social service workers who have worked in social centers during the coronavirus pandemic.

In a Decision of the Council of Ministers (VKM) approved on May 6, the government has decided to pay a one-time bonus of 55,000 ALL (€442) to all “personnel that serves in public residential social care institutions, under the authority of the State Social Service and municipalities.”

Many of these centers have remained open during the coronavirus pandemic in order to provide services to citizens in need.

By a decision of the Ministry of Health, from March 10, outside contact was limited significantly in social centers that provide care to the elderly, people with disabilities, and orphaned children, though services continued.

Centers that do not provide residential services were closed in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, though social services workers were engaged in delivering food and necessities to vulnerable citizens’ homes.
