Albania Coronavirus Update 23 May: 8 New Cases, 6 Recently Recovered, 31 Deaths, 175 Active Cases, 989 Total Cases

Eight new cases of COVID-19 have been discovered in Albania during the last 24 hours.

A total of 200 tests were conducted. The total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic is 989.

According to the Ministry of Health announcement, 79% of those affected have recovered with six people recovering in the last day. The number of deaths attributed to the virus remains at 31 and hasn’t changed in over three weeks. Dr Rovena Daja from the Institute of Public Health said that the epidemiological situation of COVID-19 in Albania is stable.

There are currently 16 patients hospitalized with the virus and five are in intensive care.

The eight new cases were found in Tirana, Durres and Kruja and were all contacts of previous cases.

A total of 14,000 molecular and serological tests have been conducted since the pandemic began. 175 cases are still active in the country, mainly in Tirana, Durres, Kruja, and Shkodra.

The geographical distribution of active cases is as follows: Tirana (62), Durres (50), Kruja (27), Shkoder (10), Berat (10), Kamez (9), Fier (4), Elbasan (1), Mirdite (1), Korce (1).
