Albanian Electoral Reform Committee Agrees to Change Election Period

The Albanian Electoral Reform Political Committee have agreed to change the period in which elections will be held.

These changes would mean that elections will be held during one of the Sundays between April 15 to May 15 and October 15 to November 15.

According to the current Electoral Code, the President has the right to decide the date of elections to be one of the last two Sundays within the March 15-June 30 or September 15-November 30 periods. Usually, elections have been held in late June.

The Democratic Party proposed changing the election date so that elections would not be held during the tourist season, thus incentivizing more voters to participate.
