This weekend, the whole of Tirana will be without water.
The Deputy Director of Tirana Water Supply Evis Gjebrea announced the completion of works on the Bovilla water supply system. This will cause water shortages throughout the weekend as Bovilla supplies 80% of the cities supply.
“Citizens should take measures to fill their deposits to have water during the two days that the works will be carried out,” he told the media. He said that the works are expected to be completed by the end of the weekend and supply will be restored by Monday.
“We ask for the understanding of the citizens of Tirana…this is a big project that happens once every 20 years, that’s why we ask citizens to take measures to provide the necessary water these two days.
Gjebrea claimed that the work will increase the supply capacity by 30%, therefore increasing the number of hours people have access to running water for.
Right now, especially during the summer months, many areas of Tirana are left with little to no running water, or only during short time frames.
