In his first reaction since news of his indictment was made public, Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaçi wrote “Nobody can rewrite the history of Kosova!” besides an image of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) seal he had posted on Facebook on Thursday.
Thaçi arrived in Tirana, Albania on Friday, after he aborted his trip to Washington DC, where he was set to attend a summit with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
In a second message, Kosovo’s President announced that he would address the public on Sunday regarding recent developments.
On Wednesday, the Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in the Hague announced that Thaçi and former Speaker of Parliament Kadri Veseli were among several others indicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The unusual move to publish indictments before they are approved by a judge was justified with alleged attempts by Thaçi and Veseli to undermine the work of the special court.
The White House summit of June 27 was cancelled shortly after the news broke out. A new date is expected to be decided.
