Albania and Kosovo will use the same textbook to teach Albanian to elementary school children starting in 2022.
Minister of Education Evis Kushi made the official announcement on Sunday, in celebration of Albania’s 109th Independence Day.
Kushi also confirmed that work had already begun on the drafting of the text that will be called “The Albanian language and Albanian Culture.”
The textbook is the first among a series of textbooks to be produced by a Joint Commission set up for this purpose.
The Commission is part of larger efforts by the two governments to standardize the teaching of Albanian and the preservation of the language.
At the same event, Speaker of Parliament Lindita Nikolla said she had submitted a proposal to Parliament to make November 22 a national holiday celebrating the Albanian alphabet.
