Albania Coronavirus: 14% of Cases Are Medical Professionals

Three nurses and a doctor of the Infectious Diseases Hospital have been infected with coronavirus, bringing the total number of infected medical staff in Albania to 36.

Dr. Dhimiter Kraja, who worked for 48 years at the hospital and is now retired, a few days ago went back to his old workplace to help his colleagues with the epidemic. Last night it was announced that he unfortunately was infected but his condition is stable.

As of Wednesday, April 1, Albania has reported 259 people infected and tested 1823 in total. About 14 percent of those diagnosed with Covid-19 are medical staff.

So far, eight of them have recovered, whereas the rest are either self-quarantining in their homes or hospitalized, according to Tuesday’s report.

The infected medical staff include the heads of the Microbiology Laboratory at the Tirana University Hospital Center (QSUT), Health Care Service Operator and National Emergency Service who also tested positive last week.
