Albania has seen a two point drop from last year in the Global Peace Index, ranking 55th in the world
According to the 2020 Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) report on the condition of global peace, though Europe remains the most peaceful region in the world, it saw the largest increase in civil unrest events from 2011 to 2018, totalling almost 1600 protests, riots, and strikes. The report foresees further unrest that will follow the looming recession.
Kosovo, too, fell six points on the index, ranking 85th in the world. Serbia, on the other hand, saw a one point rise, coming up to 51.
IEP measures the state of peace by the level of social safety and security, the extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict, and the degree of militarisation.
