The government of Albania has decided to introduce lockdown measures throughout the country following a spike in new Covid-19 cases in the last weeks.
All citizens are banned from leaving their houses starting from November 11, from 22:00 to 06:00, the Committee of Experts fighting the pandemic announced on Monday.
Bars and restaurants will also be closed from 22:00 until 06:00, except for home catering services. Administration employees are advised to work from home.
The new measures will take effect on Wednesday, and will continue for 3 weeks.
Deputy Minister of Health Mira Rakaçolli said that these measures were taken as a result of the increase in new cases. Schools will not be closed as they are not hotbeds of infection, she added.
On Sunday, Albania recorded a new high in daily cases. The last five weeks have seen 44% of the total cases and 30% of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Albania.
