The Albanian government has approved the receipt of a EUR 180 million loan from the European Union to combat the consequences of Covid-19.
EU Ambassador to Tirana Luigi Soreca, in a Twitter post on Friday, wrote :
“The Albanian government has approved the financial assistance of 180 million euros provided by the EU as part of support in the fight against COVID-19. “These funds will contribute to strengthening public finances by increasing social protection and fighting corruption.”
As Exit News has previously written, the amount of 180 million euros is a low-interest loan that the EU gives to Albania.
It is part of a 3.3 billion-euro macro-financial assistance package for the Western Balkan countries.
The funds will be disbursed through IPA funds and will serve to support the health system, to reactivate the economy, as well as for economic and social needs caused by the pandemic.
