The Albanian Ministry of Health has reached an agreement with US pharmaceutical company Pfizer for an as yet undisclosed amount of COVID-19 vaccines.
The decision was announced on June 16 by the Albanian Council of Ministers.
However, no details have been made known about the agreement, whether with regard to the amount of doses purchased, the overall price of the agreement, or when the vaccines will arrive in Albania.
According to the announcement, the government is not at liberty to disclose the particulars of the purchase for reasons pertaining to its trade secret obligations towards Pfizer. Likewise, the agreement will not be published on institutional websites, nor on the Official Gazette.
“All institutions involved are obliged not to make public the agreement attached to this normative,” the decision states.
The reserve funds of the state budget for 2021 will be used to pay for this purchase.
Over 936,000 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 have arrived so far in Albania. The Albanian government has spent over $20 million in vaccine purchasing agreements to date.
Meanwhile, neighboring Kosovo also reached an agreement with Pfizer in late May and will receive 1,2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of the year.
