Albania to Assume Presidency of Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization

Albania is set to take over the presidency of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization in January 2021.

Gent Cakaj, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs took part in a BESC video conference last week, in collaboration with foreign ministers from other member countries. They discussed the mutual fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to strengthen cooperation in the region.

Cakaj announced on Twitter that Albania will assume the six-month rotating chairmanship of the BSEC at the start of next year.

The organisation was started in 1992 in Istanbul with the aim of fostering cooperation, peace, and stability in the region. It also focusses on multilateral economic and political activities. Members include Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Serbia, North Macedonia, Ukraine and Georgia.
