The Albanian government has sealed a deal for 500,000 vaccine doses with Pfizer Inc., over 10,700 of which will be delivered in the third week of January.
Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the good news on Friday, January 1st, during a press conference.
It exceeds Rama’s promise to bring the first doses within February, following mounting pressure on his government over tardiness to strike deals with producers.
Rama said 9,000 more doses were secured from two partner countries.
He stressed that the agreement was made possible without the help of the European Union, but only through his and the government’s work.
Rama announced that a number of doses will be sent to Kosovo, for the medical staff working with COVID-19 patients.
The next batch of 30,250 vaccine doses from Pfizer will be delivered to Albania in February.
