Edmond Budina, one of the leading National Theatre activists has said he will sue the Albanian government for violating his privacy.
Prime Minister Edi Rama published the names of Edmond and his brother Robert- both strong opponents of Rama and integral Theatre activists- on Twitter, saying they have COVID-19.
Edmond told News24 that:
“Less than an hour later, all the media spread the news of our diagnosis. The most serious is that even Prime Minister Edi Rama, who must be the first to respect the Constitution of the country he leads, made our names public. He has the obligation to publicly state who he got the news from. I will pursue this issue legally because it is a violation of our human rights and freedoms.”
He clarified that he got the infection from his aunt who was hospitalised at the University Hospital Centre.
On Friday, Rama tweeted:
“I am really sorry that the two Budina brothers tested positive for COVID-19! I wish them to pass it as easily as possible and to have a speedy recovery. We all need to be very careful because the virus has not escaped and is taking advantage of the negligence of citizens towards the rules.”
His comment provoked numerous reactions on social media, asking whether he had the authorisation to make such information public.
