A group of architects in Albania and Kosovo are aiding in the fight against coronavirus by 3D-printing face masks for €1.5 apiece.
Medical professionals remain the group most vulnerable to infection due to their frequent contact with infected patients. Already, in Albania, 10 doctors have tested positive, while dozens of others have had to self-isolate.
The volunteer initiative, called “Face Shield Mask”, is producing face protective masks that can minimize contact and lower the risk of infection. The Tirana University Hospital Center (QSUT) will need at least 500 of these masks. 200 more are needed by the Shkodra Hospital.
The cost for the material needed to 3D-print 20 of these masks is about €20.
100 masks have already been produced, and the initiative hopes to produce at least 1000 more within April.
The voluntary and non-profit initiative has also put out a call asking anyone that can operate a 3D printer to join them. They also welcome any contributions that will help purchase raw materials.
