For the first time ever the Tuzi Municipality in Montenegro, inhabited predominantly by Albanians, will have an Albanian Mayor, Mr Nikë Gjeloshaj. Results of yesterday’s election showed that “Albania Forum” coalition of parties won half of the 32 seats in the municipal assembly.
Nikë Gjeloshaj was the candidate of the three Albanian parties joining the coalition: Albanian Alternative, Albanian Democratic League and Albanian Democratic Union.
The Tuzi Municipality was established only last September. Previously the town was governed under the Podgorica Municipality.
Albanian politicians in Montenegro had earlier called on Albanian diaspora to return home to vote in local elections.
Tuzi Municipality is estimated to have approximately 12 thousand residents, slightly more than half of which are Albanians.
