Albania’s Special Court Against Corruption (SPAK) has ruled to seize the assets of two former members of the Constitutional Court and one of the High Court.
Through an announcement on the official website, it stated that the court has accepted the request of SPAK for the sequestration of the assets of Fatos Lulo, Bashkim Dedjes, and Shkelzen Selimi.
“From the criminal investigation carried out, data emerged that these subjects owned immovable property, which they did not justify with legal sources or property that they hid. For this reason, the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime, submitted to the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, the relevant requests for sequestration of assets in the possession/ownership of these three entities. “, Writes SPAK.
SPAK has been working on the investigation of magistrates who have not passed the vetting process. The first under investigation are those from the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court.
US Ambassador Yuri Kim welcomed the decision.
Through a Twitter post, Kim writes that justice reform is not perfect, easy, or fast but it will move forward.
“The court accepted the request of SPAK to seize the property of former members of the Supreme and Constitutional Court who did not pass the vetting. “Justice reform is not easy, fast or perfect – but it is moving forward step by step.”
This reaction came after the court decision to seize the property of Fatos Lulo, Bashkim Dedja, and Shkëlzen Selimi.
