Albanian curator Eriola Pira has been appointed curator at the Vera List Center of the New School in New York, where she will be responsible for developing the annual Vera List Center Forum.
Pira has been a frequent contributor to the debate surrounding Albanian cultural politics, and has often criticized the policies of the Rama regime on social media. In 2016, this led to a direct confrontation with Edi Rama during a public event at Marian Goodman gallery, where the Prime Minister openly threatened Pira after she criticized the corruption of his regime and the complicity of the art world in providing him with cultural capital.
She has also been kept in contact with the Albanian art scene through the residencies she organized in New York for the winners of the annual Ardhje prize for upcoming Albanian artists.
