Albanian Government to Pay Small Business Workers a Month’s Minimum Wage

The government has promised small business workers that they will be paid the minimum wage for the month they have been out of work. They will receive this wage in early April, Minister of Reconstruction and Coronavirus Arben Ahmetaj announced.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Edi Rama pledged to make available a 1.57 billion ALL (approximately €12.7 million) fund to pay the wages of 60,440 people employed by small businesses.

The numbers imply that the government will only pay a minimum wage of €208. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, small businesses have had to cease their activity which has led to financial difficulties.

So far, 146 coronavirus cases have been found in Albania, including 5 deaths and 17 recoveries.
