The Albanian opposition will replace the progressive tax system of the current government with a 9 percent flat tax if it comes to power after the 2021 election.
Opposition leader Lulzim Basha announced the plan during a meeting with Albanian industrialists. He promised support and concrete reforms for economic development.
The current progressive tax system provides for zero tax for salaries lower than €240, 13 percent of the amount above €240 for salaries between €240 – 1,000, and €100 plus 23 percent of the amount above €1,000 for salaries over €1,000.
In a Facebook post following the meeting, Basha stressed that he would also cut taxes and red tape, foster competition, and attract foreign investment.
