The State and Municipal Police will monitor the compliance of Albanians with the government order to wear masks in public starting from Thursday, October 15.
The chief of police, Ardi Veliu made a press statement on Monday to urge Albanians to comply with the order in order to avoid the virus spread and another potential lockdown.
He said wearing a mask decreases the probability of virus spread considerably.
“The State Police will engage all its capacities, along with other structures, to guarantee the implementation of the measures set by the health authorities. Police patrols will strictly monitor all public premises and spaces where from Thursday on it will be mandatory to wear a mask,” Veliu warned.
He said that penalties against citizens are not their aim, but police will respond to those refusing to wear masks according to the law and their duty.
Prime Minister Edi Rama warned earlier that those violating the rules will be fined, and the fine will be added to their water bill.
