Albanian President Urges Opposition to Continue Talks on Electoral Reform

Albania’s President Ilir Meta has called on the opposition to continue talks on electoral reform with the Socialist majority.

The opposition had hinted that it may abandon talks after the government illegally demolished the National Theater.

In a meeting with opposition parties on Thursday, Meta also presented his platform for the country’s EU integration, which aims for joint efforts from all political actors.

The President stressed the importance of restoring the trust and legality of public institutions through free voting.

He expressed concern over the demolition of the National Theater, which he called a provocation to democracy and the rule of law.

Opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha tweeted that they discussed the crisis in the country and the way out of it. He stated that only free and fair elections are the solution to end the crisis.
