Albanian PM Announces Medical Supplies Are on the Way via Istanbul

Prime Minister Rama announced the arrival of supplies and protective equipment for coronavirus doctors and patients, on Tuesday evening.

He posted on Facebook a photo of the Air Albania plane landing at Istanbul Airport. Air Albania is currently the only airline flying in or out of Tirana International Airport.

“[The plane] is now being loaded in Istanbul with the weapons to protect lives of our patients and doctors,” Rama wrote. In his daily communications with the public, he calls the fight against the epidemic “a war”, hence the “weapons”.

He has not given any data on these supplies. It is not known whether these were purchased or donated, or where they originated from.

Rama had stated last week that he had presented the Turkish president with several requests to help Albania’s fight against the coronavirus outbreak.
