Prime Minister Edi Rama has promised to launch mass vaccination this year, and complete the construction of four airports and two ports if his Socialist Party wins the April 25 elections for a third term.
During a rally on Thursday, Rama announced that 38,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses will arrive tomorrow.
“We are negotiating on a contract to start mass vaccination next week to save the tourism season,” Rama added.
Earlier, Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu stated that 68,000 vaccine doses are expected to reach Albania from AstraZeneca in April, emphasizing that the government’s goal is to vaccinate the population within 14 months.
Rama also announced that “by the end of the third term, Albania will have 4 airports in Tirana, Kukes, Vlora and Saranda.”
The Kukes Airport will be ready in a few weeks, he said, currently awaiting final international certification.
The new concession holder of Tirana Airport will invest in a new terminal which will reduce flight costs, he claimed.
The Vlora Airport contract is expected to be signed soon, and a bid is expected to be launched for the seasonal Saranda Airport.
“Albania will also be the destination of elite tourism for luxury yachts,” Rama promised.
