Albanian Programmers Working on Shqip-Speaking Version of “Alexa”

Albanian programmers are working on a Shqip-speaking version of  “Alexa”.

Alexa is the AI personal assistant developed by tech-giants Amazon back in 2014. It has the ability to interpret natural language and dialogue with humans and to carry out certain tasks. It can also process certain information via a range of different voice commands. The AI assistant is used to play music, manage lists, provide weather updates and traffic information, stream music, and set alarms.

It connects and controls various other smart devices in the home such as sockets, bulbs, switches, cameras, intercoms, locks, robot vacuum cleaners, routers and more.

The Albanian version is being developed by programmer Betim Drenica. He and his team of computer scientists saw a good opportunity to make Shqip- the standard Albanian language, known to the world.

“So far there are no other projects for the Albanian language. We have been working on the programme for a year and have reached a very good level of knowledge about the language” Drenica told Top Channel.

Drenica and his team expect the programme to recognise all dialects and different Albanian cadences in the future. They are also working on a programme, similar to Grammarly that will grammatically correct text that is written in the Albanian language.
