Albanian Prosecution Launches Investigation into Waste Incinerators

The Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecution (SPAK) has launched an investigation into the incinerator concession contracts.

“Criminal proceedings have been registered for all reports. Investigations will be carried out to clarify all claims. It’s the prosecutors who take concrete actions on the matter, and [their work] can’t be object to publication,” Head of SPAK Arben Kraja told Euronews.

The SPAK has received four criminal reports related to three concession contracts on waste incinerators in Albania. The first report was filed by the Nisma Thurje organization, and three more were filed by the opposition Democratic Party.

The government has approved a forth concession contract for another waste incinerator in Vlora, to be built by the same company.
