Albanian Special Anti-Corruption Office Investigating EUR 1.5 Million Government Food Aid Tender

The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, SPAK, has launched an investigation into the government’s EUR 1.5 million tenders for the supply of food to needy families during the pandemic.

The Democratic Party had previously reported Defense Minister Olta Xhacka, members of the Bid Evaluation Committee and the company that won the tender. The PD accused them of active and passive corruption, abuse of office, and violation of equality in tenders.

The company was allegedly chosen in conditions where none of them are specialised and had increased the scope of their activity a few days before the tender was opened.

The media report that the SPAK has questioned three members of the Tender Evaluation Commissions at the Ministry of Defense. The owners of the winning company in Northern Macedonia are also expected to be questioned.
