Albanian students have demanded that the government halve tuition fees for the 2019-2020 academic year as their families are unemployed and they do not have the funds to pay.
In a letter sent to the Ministry of Education, the Union of Student Councils said that the COVID-19 crisis has impacted the economy as well as family income. They have also requested that boarding fees be cut by 50%.
The letter said that based on a questionnaire conducted by the Union, many students were finding it impossible to pay their University fees. Tuition fees are “unreasonable” and it is “impossible to pay in such a situation”.
Signatories demanded swift action from the Ministry, noting that “today, more than ever we demand representation and support from you, not just empty words and promises.”
