Albanian students are set to protest for the fourth day in a row, following today’s mathematics exam.
The protest will take place at 13:00, after the exam, in front of the Ministry of Education. Previous protests have taken place, demanding the re-evaluation of the Albanian language and literature exam. Students said that the test was full of inaccuracies and many questions were incorrectly formulated.
They also claimed that the test was different to what they had studied and had been told to expect. Students said the test had questions that were “unrelated and illogical” and outside what had been studied during the scholastic year.
Students say they will boycott remaining exams if their demands are not met. These include a re-evaluation of the thesis, reducing the minimum threshold to pass and the number of points for grade 9 and 10, and not marking questions outside of the year’ curriculum.
Some protestors say they had been asked for their names by the Centre for Educational Services. This, they said left them feeling intimidated and caused them psychological harm.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Education said that their demands will be evaluated by a group of experts at the Centre.
Deputy Minister Nina Guga said “The problems you have brought to us regarding the test have been addressed to the Centre for Educational Services. They will analyse them with a group of experts and make a public announcement of findings.”’
Decisions relating to pass marks will be made after assessing the difficulty of the test.
Despite this, Director of the Centre, Rezana Vrapi said the students’ demands have no basis, they will not be reevaluated, there were no mistakes, and none of the test questions was missing from the curriculum.
