The Supreme State Audit (KLSH) of Albania has filed criminal charges against five officials at the Ministry of Interior for public procurement abuses. The charges were filed with the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK).
In a press statement, KLSH announced that after conducting a financial audit of the Ministry’s accounts for 2018, 2019, and 2020, it had found “inconsistencies and legal irregularities” in several public procurement procedures. The abuses in question concerned a contract for the analysis and design of structures for the state police in Tirana, Vlora, Pogradec, and Mirdite.
According to the statement, KLSH filed criminal charges against five officials involved in evaluating the tender offers, accusing them of violating the principle of fair competition in public procurement and inflating costs.
Earlier this month SPAK ordered the arrest of nine low-ranking public officials also at the Ministry of Interior, for rigging a tender worth €23 million in 2020 for the supply of Albanian police officers with uniforms.
