A dozen Albanian citizens living in Austria have protested against the demolition of the National Theater in Tirana.
Gathering outside the office of the Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz they held signs accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama of “demolishing EU integration”.
Other signs said “I am the theater”, “Rama= Historical Cleansing”, “Rama’s Tirana= Podemkin Village”, and “Theatre is Art and Freedom, Rama is Ignorance and Repression”, “no place for ‘refleksione’, no place for memory in TiRAMA”.
[“Reflections” is the title of a book of essays co-authored by Rama; TiRAMA = YouRAMA.]
The group of protesters stated that their common goal is for the theater to be reconstructed where it once stood and that this is a “first step towards restoring democracy in Albania.”
