Albanian Court Returns Most of the Seized Property to ‘Balkan Escobar’

The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has returned to Kelment Balili 60 percent of  the property seized from him and his family.

On Monday, the Court announced its verdict, listing the 40 percent of assets finally to be seized by the state. They include 17 apartments, about 27 thousand meter square of land, and a 5-floor hotel.

The 60 percent of assets returned to Balili was not made public at this time.   

Balili, whom the Greek media labeled as “Balkan’s Escobar” when he was on the run and working for the government of Albania, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2019. Charges included international drug trafficking, participation in a structured criminal group, money laundering, and failure of government officials to declare assets.
