Albpetrol, Albania’s state-owned petroleum production and marketing company, is looking to give in concession three oil fields in the country’s south, namely in Gorisht-Kocul, Cakran-Mollaj, and Amonica. The tender for these projects will be open until March 31.
According to Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri, the Albanian government is currently looking to sell some of Albpetrol’s assets and decrease its staff numbers as part of a restructuring process.
According to its website, Albpetrol currently employs around 2,300 people.
A few weeks ago, Minister Gijknuri signed an agreement expanding the activity of Shell Upstream Albania in the country. New areas to be explored for possible oil resources include Shpirag, Berat.
According to the Ministry’s press statement, Shell is supposed to invest around $42.5 million during its seven-year search for previously undiscovered oil reserves, which will be taking place in three stages.
