Allegations of Pressure on Voters Flying Seven Months Before General Election

The Director of the State Health Inspectorate in Elbasan Blendi Musai has had a criminal complaint filed against him by the Democratic Party.

It’s alleged that Musai has distributed a form to employees for them to start collecting votes for the Socialst Party, prior to the 2021 general election. The PD have accused him of abuse of office and using his position in a public office for political or electoral activities.

Several days ago, the PD instructed all the heads of their regional branches to identify Socialist directors in state administration who are pressuring employees for votes. A letter was sent to the mayors by General Secretary Gazment Bardhi stating that any employees fired from their state position because of their refusal to take part in the PS campaign, would be reinstated by the PD.

PD MP Luan Daci previously published a form which he alleges is being distributed to employees of the Fier Municipality. Each state employee is allegedly required to fill out the form with the names of 20 voters from their family and social circle who will vote for the PS.

Such activities are commonplace in Albanian politics with state employees being required to collect votes for the party.
