State Attorney Alma Hiçka has been replaced by Artur Metani. Hiçka became State Attorney on November 5, 2013 and chose not to renew her mandate.
Hiçka’s term as State Attorney was distinguished by several scandals, including the deal signed by the Rama Government with Czech energy company CEZ, which cost the Albanian taxpayers €479 million.
Hiçka, a former judge from Kavaja, also oversaw the dubious hiring of expensive foreign legal companies in the multiple international arbitrage cases caused by the unilateral decision of the Rama government.
The new State Attorney, Artur Metani, is the brother of former Minister of Urban Development and Socialist MP Eglantina Gjermeni, and is a former legal specialist at the Open Society Foundation in Albania and counsellor to the Prime Minister.
