Ballsh Oil Workers Agree Payment With Albanian Prime Minister

Yesterday, Prime Minister Edi Rama met with the oil workers from the Ballsh Refinery who had been hunger striking for 44 days over unpaid wages.

Last week, they came to an agreement to end the strike on the condition the government would pay them. At the meeting yesterday, a deal was negotiated.

Head of the Oil Workers Union Sokol Dautaj announced that they will receive 40,000 ALL (EUR 360)  after-tax, for one year.

Rama said it was a difficult decision considering the issues in the country at the moment but that he believes they did the right thing. He added he is in contact with three companies who may be interested in investing in the refinery so work can resume.
