Bankers Petroleum, the largest oil producer in the Albania, has sued its former general director Leonidha Çobo for corruption, alleging that Çobo had taken bribes from companies Bankers traded with.
Bankers claimed that subcontractors and suppliers acquired their Bankers contracts by paying a corruptive “commission” to Çobo.
Last week, the company also sued Çobo and several other former chief executives for breaching their confidentiality agreements and conflict-of-interest clauses during the time they were working for Bankers and in the 24 months after they left, a period during which they were contractually obligated not to work for any businesses in competition with Bankers.
Among those sued is former director Suneel Gupta, former manager Justin Kereluk, former legal counsel Trent Mercier, and former sales consultant Massimilliano Calabro.
According to Bankers, these former employees disclosed confidential information to rival companies in exchange for personal gain, including monetary compensation.
Some of them are also accused of having founded or joined businesses in competition with Bankers and having used trade secrets from Bankers in doing so.
The company claims that damages caused by these actions amount to millions of euros.
Çobo publicly denied the accusations and claimed that they were being made in order to bring public attention away from the company’s current management and debt problems.
