PD leader Lulzim Basha gave an interview yesterday evening to journalist Blendi Fevziu in Opinion. Basha spoke about parts of his electoral program as well as the candidate lists of the PD, which had caused discontent among the old guard of the party.
Basha highlighted the following elements from his electoral program:
- Increase in healthcare budget, adding more doctors and beds;
- Paying the first 300 kW of energy bills for families on welfare;
- Creating the possibility for students on 8-year schools to stay in school until after 16:00, with lunch and after-school activities;
- Increase of minimum pension with 25,000 lekë per month;
He also referred to his experience as student and emigrant in the Netherlands as formative for his view on Albania:
During all my political activity I have served the public interest and have fought from the first for the European standard of democracy and politics which I have known and lived in Holland and Western Europe.
There the system guarantees that you move forward based on merit. That is the battle I wage today. That from here onward the Albanian youth no longer needs to do acrobatics, but is able to succeed in life through merit.
As regards his candidate list, Basha affirmed that he hold “personal responsibility for this list.”
I have not excluded anyone from the Democratic Party. Your life is not only linked with the PD when you are deputy. That’s the idea of the Old Republic. […]
If we win, but whatever the results, on July 22 there will be leadership elections for the head of the PD.
