The mortal remains of two persons were found in Kosovo on Friday, authorities confirmed.
One case was found in the cemetery of the Municipality of Rahovec, while the other in the cemetery of the Tusuz neighborhood in Prizren.
Kosovo’s Forensics team said that the mortal remains were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for further procedures.
Excavations at these locations started this morning.
Valon Hyseni, a doctor at the Institute of Forensic Medicine told the news agency Kosova Press that the bodies were buried by Serbian forces during the war in Kosovo.
Arsim Gerxhaliu, director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, told Radio Free Europe that these excavations started after some information and instructions from the authorities of the justice system.
“This work is taking place after an order issued from the Prosecution. This is information that we analyze and normally we are obliged to check in these terrains,” Gerxhaliu said.
1643 persons are still missing from the Kosovo war in 1998- 1999.
Body remains believed to be of Kosovo Albanians killed during the war were recently found in five mass graves in a location between the southwestern towns of Kizevak and Raska.
Due to weather conditions, excavation at this location stopped and teams will continue working in spring, by when it will be possible to know the origin of the mortal remains.
