The monitoring co-rapporteurs for Albania of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Andrej Hunko and Joseph O’Reilly have welcomed the agreement between the opposition and the ruling majority on electoral reform.
In a press release issued today, they said they are “heartened by the commitment expressed by all parties to come to a consensual agreement on these reforms in the very near future.”
“This is an important step forward to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the country. We call upon all stakeholders to co-operate constructively and in good faith in this framework, in order to achieve an as wide as possible consensus on an electoral framework that can have the trust of all stakeholders in the electoral process in Albania. That would, in turn, be a big step forward with regard to the country’s democratic consolidation,” said the two co-rapporteurs.
The co-rapporteurs will closely follow these developments and developments regarding the controversial “anti-defamation package” and intend to visit the country in the near future.
