A Tirana Court has agreed to review a defamation lawsuit filed by Shkëlzen Berisha, the son of former President Sali Berisha, against Socialist whip Taulant Balla.
In July 2020, Balla claimed in several posts on social media, and during a speech in parliament, that Berisha received loans from banks by using as collateral assets gained through criminal activity, that he had never worked in his life, that one of his clients had ordered the killing of a businessman, that he has abused his father’s power and engaged in illegal mediation, and that he has escaped justice many times thanks to his father’s position.
On Wednesday, the court agreed to review Shkëlzen Berisha’s lawsuit, filed in September 2020, through which he demands that Balla retract his statements and pay him €25,000 as compensation. The next hearing will be on September 14th.
