Durres Appellate Judge Fired Over EUR 152,000 Worth of Asset Discrepancies

The Independent Qualification Commission has fired Durres Appellate Judge Tritan Hamitaj.

The decision for Hamitaj was made by Suela Zhegu, Genta Tafa and Lulëzim Hamitaj.

During the administrative investigation, the KPC found numerous problems with the judge’s property, including incorrect statements, suspicions of fictitious lending contracts, fictitious property purchase contracts, and suspicions of assets hidden in the father’s name.

According to the financial analysis, Hamitaj had 19 million ALL (over EUR 152,000) in assets that he could not justify with legal sources of income.

Judge Hamitaj challenged the commission’s findings and retorted sharply to members of the trial panel. According to him, the vetting process is not regular, the way costs and revenues are calculated is problematic and that throughout the process, he has not had the opportunity to defend himself.

Hamitaj’s statements came after he had submitted to the KPC 20 preliminary requests for postponement of the vetting and disqualification of the trial panel. All his claims were rejected by the KPC.
