Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that he is in constant communication with the three companies for the vaccine against Covid-19.
Speaking to reporters today, Rama said that the EU decision to bring surpluses to the Balkans is unfortunate. Despite a request from Albania, the EU decided it would not distribute vaccines in Albania at the same time as the EU and the Balkans would only get the left over vaccines.
Rama said the number of vaccines produced is quite low and there will be no surplus.
“We are in contact with Pfizer, Moderna and in communication with some friendly countries, but as you know the EU has made a rather unfortunate decision. It has decided that surpluses will be given to the countries of the Western Balkans. There is no surplus as the demand is higher than what is produced. What I do know is that we will not lag behind others, I have talked about the first two months of next year I do not want to give more data. I tell you all to be calm when it comes to becoming a beggar for Albania, I believe we know how to do it better than anyone else.”
Today, the first vaccines were given in Serbia and the population will start vaccination soon. It is the first country in the region to start vaccination against COVID-19.
