Eggs, Sunflower Oil and Flour are Most Purchased Items in Albania Prior to Lockdown

The top-selling products bought by Albanians during lockdown have been revealed by Monitor.al.

Albania has so far been generally immune to the panic buying that has spread across Europe and items like toilet roll and disinfectant did not even make the top 10.

Elona Hametaj, Executive Director of Spar Albania, told Monitor that the volume of purchases these days is specific to a few items.

“At the moment, as you might imagine, the top of the market lies in basket products like fruits and vegetables. Hygiene products also play an important role. Top sellers are eggs, sunflower oil, flour, water, sugar, rice, milk, energy drinks, canned sardines, and hand gel cleansers.”

Supermarket chain operators in the country said that initially in the second week of March there was an increase in sales volume similar to those at the end of the year holidays but that there was a gradual decline in this curve towards normalization. Operators who have said that food imports continue to operate normally and that there is no room for panic and high volume purchases.

  1. Eggs

  4. Water
  5. Sugar
