EP Rapporteur Criticizes Kosovo President for Refusing to Sit in Talks with Serbia Mediated by EU Envoy

The European Parliament Rapporteur for Kosovo, Viola von Cramon has criticized Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi for refusing to participate in dialogue with Serbia under the mediation of EU envoy Miroslav Lajcak.

She tweeted that “a responsible leader must talk to international negotiators, it’s not a personal choice.”

MEP voc Cramon rhetorically asked Thaçi what could be more important to him than Lajcak’s proven work on results-oriented negotiations.

On Tuesday, Thaçi  stated he won’t participate in Kosovo-Serbia negotiations led by EU envoy Miroslav Lajcak.

Thaçi has previously slammed EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell and EU envoy Miroslav Lajcak for coming from countries that do not recognize Kosovo, namely Spain and Slovakia.

The President questioned the EU’s effectiveness in the dialogue and expressed his preference for the US to lead negotiations.

However, based on the constitution, the dialogue will be led by Kosovo’s Prime Minister and it’s not clear if Thaçi will be part of his team.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has announced his plan to include Thaçi in a 10-member team, together with the speaker of Parliament and representatives of each parliamentary party.
