The European Union is committed to facilitate the resumption of talks between Kosovo and Serbia as soon as possible, with the final objective to resolve the issues between them.
“I am ready and committed to continuing the dialogue without further delay and to help both sides work on an agreement that will normalize relations and resolve all issues, and which will be acceptable both for the region and for the European Union,” Miroslav Lajcak, the EU special envoy for the dialogue, stated after his two-day-visit in Belgrade.
Lajcak met with President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic. He stressed that Serbia’s future in the EU is closely related to resolving standing issues with Kosovo.
President Vucic also expressed his readiness to resume talks with Kosovo, despite the very difficult choices expecting Serbia, according to him. He said that it is up to Lajcak to set a date for the meeting.
Lajcak’s visit to Belgrade follows his visit to Pristina a few days ago.
President Aleksandar Vucic visited Moscow on Tuesday, where he discussed the resumption of talks with President Vladimir Putin.
This week he will travel from Moscow to Brussels to meet with the highest EU officials, and then to Washington to sit in talks with Kosovo.
