Ex-Socialist MP Cleared of Forging Documents, Abuse of Office, Alienating Property

The Court of Lezha has dismissed the case against the former Socialist Party MP Arben Ndoka who was accused of illegally alientating property.

On Thursday, the Court came to the conclusion that “the criminal offense against Ndoka was not proven”.

Arben Ndoka was arrested in October 2018, along with other local officials from Lezha, as part of Operation “Volvo 4”.

He was accused of forging documents and being involved in property alienation on the Shengjin coast, Lezha.

The group of officials believed to be illegally alienating properties was discovered during the interception of phone calls of Avdylaj gang of Shijak, accused of drug trafficking.

Arben Ndoka earned his term as an MP of Lezha County in 2014, after two socialist MPs from 2013 elections resigned in a row. In 2015 Ndoka quit his term as an MP after it was revealed through the Decriminalization Law that he was formerly sentenced in Italy on charges of human trafficking,  but after the interference of the Albanian courts he was able to get a considerable reduction in his sentence,  resulting in his release from prison after merely 3 years of detention.

Ndoka’s brother, Xhevahir Ndoka, was arrested the same day as part of the Avdylaj brothers gang.

After the arrest, Ndoka’s property including land and apartments on the coast of Lezha worth about EUR 40 million, was seized.
