Some areas of Albania have experienced flooding due to the heavy rainfall over the last few days.
In Lezhe, the Beslidhja area of the city has experienced flooding of up to 30cm and around 1200 hectares of agricultural land is underwater. The January 11 area also reported high levels of water.
Mayor of Lezhe said a number of families have been evacuated and there are concerns over the water level in a nearby reservoir.
In the cemetery of Kakarriq in the village of Balldre, floods were reported and a family was evacuated in the village of Koterr.
In Vlora, rain caused the level of the Vjosa river to surpass 6.3m above sea level. Part of the bazaar near the Mifol bridge was underwater.
The village of Murqine was also impacted as the water level in fields reached 50cm and some 20 houses are surrounded by water.
Dozens of hectares of land are underwater in villages including Fshe Gjurice, Fushe Kertushaj, and Fushe Kapadane. The villages of Shriq and Mushan reported 489 hectares of flooded land.
In Shkodra, the Obot road is impassable due to flood water reaching 60cm. Flooding was also reported in Lac, Reshen and Tropoja. This has led to collapsed electricity infrastructure leading to power outages in a number of areas.
In Gjirokaster, the Liqeni i Viroit burst its banks and has flooded local roads. The nearby tributaries of the Vjosa and Drin are also almost at capacity.
During the night, a five story building in the Punetori neighbourhood of Gjirokaster started to slide and cracks appeared in its walls. There was a landslide incident in Lezhe were walls built into the side of a hill where gardens and homes are situated, slipped due to the excess water.
The bad weather is expected to continue until the 11 or 12 January.
