Albania is witnessing an influx of foreigners coming to the country to undergo plastic surgery procedures such as breast augmentation, rhinoplasty and liposuction.
According to local clinics, there are increases of around 30% in demand for procedures during 2022 when compared to 2021.
Lida Hoxha from Dermolife told Monitor that, “If in other sectors of the economy, demand or consumption is in crisis, in our sector you cannot talk about a crisis. The demand for surgical intervention is 30% more than last year.”
Of these, many are from the US, Italy, the UK, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Clinics also reported increased demand from Albanians locally as well as those living in the US, Switzerland, Germany, Kosovo and North Macedonia.
The Da Vinci clinic in Tirana said that 60% of customers are foreign and 40% are Albanians living locally or abroad.
“In fact, from year to year there is an increase in the demand for aesthetic interventions. For the first 7 months of 2022, aesthetic surgeries have increased by 23% compared to the same period of 2021,” they added.
Other popular procedures among foreigners are hair transplants, gastric bands, and liposuction. There is also a lot of interest in botox and fillers.
Over the last two years, Albania has also become a leading location for dental tourism with many clinics offering package deals including flights, accommodation and dental services.
