Former Macedonian Prime Minister Gruevski Allegedly Fled Country through Albania

Over the last 24 hours, more details have emerged about former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski’s escape from Macedonia to avoid a 2-year prison term for corruption.

Journalist Vincent Triest reported on Twitter that Albanian police confirmed that Gruevski had crossed the border between Albania and Montenegro in a vehicle belonging to the Hungarian embassy in Albania, with license plate CD1013A. The car allegedly passed the border on November 11 at 19:11.

It is yet unclear how and when Gruevski entered Albania. No records of his entry have so far been located in the TIMS system.

Gruevski has applied for political asylum in Hungary.
